On this corner lot, right across the street from University of Oregon’s new Portland campus, we used Portland’s new zoning code to build 6 new townhomes, 3 of which are net zero and permanently affordable in partnership with Proud Ground and the Portland Clean Energy Fund.

Two major city bikeways intersect out front, mature trees line both sides of the site, and a TriMet bus shelter at the corner provides direct access to downtown. The townhomes are 100% electric, with induction ranges, heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and insulation well beyond code requirements. Art panels installed over each entry door depict natural Oregon scenes from ocean to dessert. Each home has 1st and 2nd floor angled bay windows, vaulted 2nd floor ceilings, and a private back yard.

Three of the homes are permanently affordable for first-time homebuyers at 80% of median family income. These each have three bedrooms and solar panels on the roof sufficient to meet year round electricity needs. The other three homes have two bedrooms each and systems development charge waivers for households at or below 100% of median family income.
